In June 2013, the Engelmanufaktur had to declare insolvency again. But as soon as two months later, Uwe Blank took the chance to restart in Lengefelder Straße 1, Gruenhainchen. Again, he pushed the traditional family business forward and continues the angelic story of success.
He restarted by restructuring the production and finally closed the production site in Venusberg in September 2013, because it was too large for the production capacities. In 2015, with more than 40 employees, a new relocation is planned and built in a refurbished, modern production site in Chemnitzer Straße 59b in Gruenhainichen.
The changes of the past showed that the Erzgebirge craftsmanship is highly influenced by the economical and technical developments, too. A simple comparison clearly demonstrates that fact: at the time, when the German wall fell, Blank offered 22 standing wooden Angels with Short Skirts, on Angel with piano, 6 Flower Children, and 16 Hanging Angels. All Angels were solely offered in a natural wooden design due to the economy of scarcity in the former German Democratic Republic.
Now, Blank Kunsthandwerk in Grünhainichen sells more than 70 different angel musicians, more than 20 Hanging Angels and a dozen Angels in a Star – all of them in a natural and a coloured version. There are 40 more Angels with Long Robes and with Long Pleated Robes, numerous Flower Children, Easter Rabbits and figurines for all over the year. The assortment is completed by Erzgebirge Christmas Pyramids, Candle Arches, Candle Holders, Music Boxes, Incense Smokers, Nutcrackers and many, many more.
The successful story of the Angels with Pleated Skirts would not have been possible without the lovers of Erzgebirge Folk Art, without all the collectors and without our faithful customers. We are very happy to pass on a bit of our home that way.
